Ferrari F12berlinetta

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

Today’s on-line unveiling of the F12berlinetta ushers in a new generation of Ferrari.

With 12-cylinders it is a car that delivers unprecedented performance from an exceptional new engine, combined with innovative design.
Revealed to the world for the first time on Ferrari.com in preparation for its official debut at the Geneva International Motor Show, the F12berlinetta, finished in an attractive new Rosso Berlinetta three-layer colour, represents the very cutting-edge of mid-front-engined sports cars.

This is, in fact, the most powerful and high-performance Ferrari road car ever launched thanks to the incredibly efficient engine which, together with advanced vehicle architecture and aerodynamics, guarantees unsurpassed driving involvement whatever the road or track.

Ferrari’s traditional transaxle layout has been revolutionised to match the more extreme performance of the car. The wheelbase has been shortened and the engine, dashboard and seats have been lowered in the chassis, while the new layout of the rear suspension and gearbox enabled Ferrari’s engineers to make the rear volume of the car smaller.

The overall result is a very compact car with a lower centre of gravity that is further back in the chassis, and a level of aerodynamic efficiency that sets new standards.

Scaglietti, renowned for its expertise in aluminium materials and construction, designed an all-new spaceframe chassis and bodyshell using 12 different kinds of alloys, some of which have been used here for the first time in the automotive sector, and employing new assembly and joining techniques.

This has resulted in a 20 per cent increase in structural rigidity while reducing weight to just 1525 kg (70 kg less than the previous V12 coupe) with an ideal distribution between the axles (54 per cent over the rear).

Cadillac CTS AWD Coupe voted Car of the Year by AutoBild Allrad

Cadillac CTS AWD Coupe voted Car of the Year by Germany's AutoBild Allrad

Readers of the influential German Motoring Magazine AutoBild Allrad have elected the Cadillac CTS AWD Coupe – Car of the Year  – in the category of the sports car/coupe/convertible segment.

This is against stiff competition from cars such as the Nissan GT-R, the Lamborghini Gallardo, the Bentley Continental GT and the Alfa Romeo Brera Q4.

Wolfgang Schubert Managing Director Cadillac Europe

Wolfgang Schubert is Managing Director of Cadillac Europe

Wolfgang Schubert, Managing Director of Cadillac Europe, received the prize on behalf of Cadillac from Dr. Hans Hamer, Managing Director of Axel Springer Auto Verlag and Bernhard Weinbacher, Editor-in-Chief of AutoBild Allrad.

Schubert said: “I am very happy to see that the new presence of Cadillac on the European marketplace has been noticed and appreciated. We are proud of our new vehicle portfolio and we are happy that the readers of AutoBild Allrad elected the dynamic CTS-AWD Coupe as the winner in its category.”

The CTS AWD Coupe was introduced to the European marketplace in autumn 2010.

The Cadillac CTS Coupe is the highest-profile model of the new Cadillac European line-up, due to its cutting-edge design, sports car performance and elaborate interior.

It also highlights Cadillac’s emerging performance credentials. The standard CTS Coupe powertrain consists of a 229 kW/311 hp direct-injected 3.6L V6 engine and six-speed manual transmission.
The CTS all-wheel drive system automatically and smoothly delivers all-wheel drive operation as required by driving conditions through computer controls and patented modulating clutch.

Information is interpreted by the vehicle’s computer controls system, which adjusts the amount of power delivered to the front wheels up to 50 times per second. The system is fully compatible with ABS.

It has been designed for a balance of maximum traction effort at all times without compromising noise, vibration and harshness.

The AWD system has been designed to work in harmony with Stabilitrak, Cadillac’s electronic stability control system, to minimize brake intervention and improve vehicle traction and handling on dry, wet, icy and snowy road conditions.

ferrari festival of goodwood

Ferrari at the festival of Speed - Goodwood 2010

Goodwood Festival of Speed dates: 28 June – 1 July 2012
The Festival of Speed is the largest motoring party in the world – a unique summer weekend that brings together a heady mix of cars, stars and motor sport ‘royalty’ to create the largest car culture event in the world.

Held in the immaculate grounds of Goodwood House, this annual hill-climb event is a true celebration of motor sport and all things automotive.

From current Formula 1 racers and 200mph supercars to steam-powered carriages of the 19th Century, and from 3000bhp top fuel dragsters to classic rally cars, the Festival of Speed attracts the heroic and the evocative from every era in an exuberant display of style, sound, smell and colour.

The History of Goodwood Festival

alfa romeo goodwood festival speed

Alfa Romeo at the Goodwood festival of speed

Motor racing at Goodwood has a history dating back to the 1930’s.
In the summer of 1936 the Earl of March and 9th Duke of Richmond – better known as the talented automotive designer, engineer, racing driver and Brooklands winner Freddie March – held a private hillclimb for the Lancia Car Club at Goodwood House. He won it, naturally, and in doing so inspired his grandson, the present Earl of March, to create a new and exciting racing event at his family home.

The resulting event was the Festival of Speed

The inaugural event was held in the summer of 1993, and attracted 25,000 spectators. Today, the Festival of Speed has become firmly established as the must attend annual celebration of motoring culture. Its enduring popularity is now capped at 150,000 with admission strictly by advance ticket only. Visitors travel from all over the world to attend.

The event has expanded way beyond the hillclimb and now includes a host of other adrenaline-fuelled attractions.

Today the Festival features a challenging loose-surface Forest Rally Stage, the high-speed Sunday Times Supercar Run, the Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’ concours d’elegance, world debuts of new car models and the FoS-TECH technology pavilion with its advanced automotive technology displays.

Today the Festival of Speed’s extraordinary atmosphere and uniquely intoxicating blend of speed and drama makes it a must for everyone that relishes the prospect of getting up close to both the priceless vehicles and famous racing drivers, riders and celebrities.

CHOPARD Classic Racing Superfast Chrono

CHOPARD Classic Racing Superfast Chrono

For over two decades, Chopard has demonstrated an unfailing attachment to the world of classic cars in general, and to racing cars in particular.

This passion is echoed in a range of classic yet sporty watch collections intended for elegant and sophisticated men with an extremely active lifestyle. Over the years, the Mille Miglia, Jacky Ickx and Grand Prix de Monaco Historique watches have become the brand’s best-sellers.

Chopard Chronograph

Chopard Chronograph

These timepieces are grouped within the Classic Racing collection representing the culmination of all the technical and aesthetic innovations inspired by the field of automobiles. A star model in this new collection, the Classic Racing Superfast Chrono is an ultra-powerful chronograph with an imposing 45 mm-diameter case.

In 1988, Chopard became official timekeeper for the “Corsa più bella del mondo”, the Mille Miglia. Over the 1000-mile (1600 km) distance running from Brescia to Rome and back, enthusiasts from around the world compete with one other at the wheel of collector’s cars. In 1996, Chopard took part as official sponsor in the Mil Millas Sport, a classic car rally that takes place each year in Argentina. In 2002, brand co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, discovered the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique through his friend and former Formula 1 racing driver Jacky Ickx, and immediately Chopard became official timekeeper for this event. From time to time, Chopard also supports the famous Rallye des Pharaons, the British Classic Cars meeting in St Moritz, the Old Timer Rally in Gstaad, or this year’s Schloss Dyck Classic Days.

Over the last 20 years, Chopard has firmly established its credibility in the field of classic car racing. The full measure of sporting elegance and technical performances acquired throughout these two decades are now reflected in the Classic Racing Superfast Chrono in steel. Its “motor”, a mechanical self-winding chronograph movement with a 42-hour power reserve and COSC chronometer certification, drives the hour and minute functions, along with small seconds at 3 o’clock and an instant-jump date display through a window at 6 o’clock. The hour-markers are reminiscent of the markings on classic car dashboard instruments, such as rev counters and speedometers. The chronograph function is operated by two pushbuttons at 2 and 4 o’clock controlling the central second hand, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock and a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock. Finally, a tachometric scale engraved on the screw-down bezel further contributes to making this model the indispensable instrument for all those with a love of high speed and finely tuned mechanisms.

In terms of its bodywork, the imposing 47.80 mm steel case is fitted with the famous rubber strap featuring the 1960s Dunlop Racing tyre-read motif. The rectangular integrated pushers are in black rubber-moulded stainless steel, as is the screw-lock crown reminiscent of a tyre and adorned with a metal appliqué bearing the Classic Racing collection steering-wheel emblem.
The lines engraved in the steel sides of the case evoke the cooling fans found on the engine block of classic cars, and this motif is echoed on the dial.

masserati grand turismo

Maserati Grand turismo

A troop of classic and contemporary Maserati sports and luxury cars will lead New York City’s 63rd annual Columbus Day Parade up Fifth Avenue, New York

In a unique display of Italian excellence in engineering and design, the Maseratis will range from a one-off, 16-cylinder Maserati Spyder, which set the world’s speed record in 1929, to a 2007 Quattroporte Automatic four-door sedan that goes from 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds.

Automotive enthusiasts will have an opportunity to view the cars in an exhibition following the parade and to win a 2008 Maserati GranTurismo in an exclusive raffle that will benefit the scholarship programs of the Columbus Citizens Foundation, which organizes the Columbus Day Parade. The GranTurismo being raffled is among the first 10 of Maserati’s latest model to be imported into the United States this year.

Among the Maseratis to be featured in the Columbus Day Parade are the following:

1929 / 1931 Maserati Spyder – V16

A unique model, the 1931 Maserati Zagato Spyder was the first super car. Powered by an unusual 16-cylinder engine, the car set the world’s speed record of 152.9 mph in 1929. It was later rebodied in 1931 by Zagato as a road-going sports car. In 2003, it was a first place winner in the Pebble Beach Concours.

1953 Maserati A6GCS MM Spyder

The first Maserati A6GCS, Series II was from the outset a factory race car that immediately earned an impressive race history with wins in 1953 and 1954. In 2000, it was a first place winner in the prestigious Louis Vuitton Concours at Rockefeller Center.

1955 Maserati A6G54 GT Frua Berlinetta

Exhibited in the Turin Motor Show in 1955, this A6G54 was sold to Italian music legend Domenico Modugno, who recorded and wrote the music and co-authored the lyrics for “Volare,” which won Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year in 1958. In 2003, the Frua Berlinetta won Best of Show in the 2003 Villa d’Este Concours in Cernobbio, Italy.

1958 Maserati 3500 Vignale Spyder

Approximately 220 examples of this car were produced between 1958 to 1964. Many luminaries of the period owned this elegant, high-performance model.

1960 Maserati 5000 GT

This striking automobile, the second of 34 5000 GTs built, is identical to the model built for the Shah of Iran in 1959. It was displayed at the 1959 Turin Motor Show and uses the Maserati 450 S race car engine and is capable of a top speed of over 170 mph.

1970 Maserati Ghibli Spyder SS

The Maserati Ghibli Spyder went into production in 1969 and, as an SS model, is extremely rare — only 25 were built! The model in the 2007 Columbus Day Parade had only one prior owner, a Neapolitan businessman who purchased it in 1970 to help win the affection of a woman he considered the most beautiful in Naples. They subsequently married and are still together to this day.

1971 Maserati Ghibli SS

The Maserati Ghibli SS debuted at the 1966 Turin Motor Show. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, who was named Car Designer of the 20th Century, the very low and particularly slender design was powered by a 360 hp V8, giving it a top speed of 185 mph.

2004 Maserati MC 12

The MC 12 was developed to signal Maserati’s return to racing after 37 years. The two-door mid-engine coupe is powered by a 6 liter, V12 engine producing 630 horsepower. In 2005, the MC 12 won FIA GT Manufacturers Cup with almost double the score of the next team.

2007 Maserati Quattroporte Automatic

The Quattroporte Automatic is considered to be the most stylish sedan in production and is powered by a 400 horsepower V8 engine.

Following their appearance in the parade, the Maseratis will be on view in front of the Columbus Citizens Foundation until early evening. The exhibition will be on 69th Street between Madison and Fifth Avenues.

A Maserati GranTurismo and a Quattroporte Automatic are currently on view in a unique exhibition in Grand Central Terminal through October 15. The sleek, 2008 Maserati GranTurismo is a rare gem among sports cars. One of the most highly anticipated introductions to the U.S. market in years, the GranTurismo is styled by Pininfarina with luxury appointments and has a powerful 4.2 liter, V8 engine (0-60 in 5.1 seconds).

Maserati is partnering with the Columbus Citizens Foundation in the raffles of the GranTurismo and Quattroporte in recognition and support of the Foundation’s scholarship programs and of the company’s own Italian heritage. A Quattroporte Automatic will be raffled at the Foundation’s Annual Gala Dinner in the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel on the night of October 6, and the GranTurismo will be raffled at 7:00 PM on October 15 in Grand Central Terminal.

Tickets for the GranTurismo are limited to 500 and for the Quattroporte Automatic are limited to 300 and cost US$1,000.00 each.

Proceeds of the raffle will benefit the Columbus Citizens Foundation’s scholarship funds. The Foundation is a non-profit organization in New York City that provides financial aid to deserving students from the elementary school through graduate school levels and organizes events that promote Italian-American heritage and culture. In 2007, the Foundation is providing financial aid to 849 students of Italian ancestry.

The Foundation has organized New York City’s Columbus Day Parade since 1929.

Event: 63rd Annual Columbus Day Parade Monday, October 8 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM (Approximately) Fifth Ave., from 44th St. north to 79th St.
