Mr. Paolo Bulgari, Chairman of Bulgari S.p.A. and Mr. Nicola Bulgari, Vice Chairman of Bulgari S.p.A., declared: “We found in Bernard Arnault and the Group he has built all the elements that are required to guarantee the long term future of Bulgari : the ability to gather into one powerful organisation different brands that can grow and develop while preserving both their identity and originality; a culture completely identical to ours, which is characterized by an unceasing quest for quality and excellence; a perfect harmony between family control of the capital, thereby ensuring a long term strategic vision, and an opening towards the stock market which is a stimulus for management while at the same time providing liquidity for the family shareholders.”

Francesco Trapani, Chief Executive Officer of Bulgari S.p.A., said: “This is a significant step for our family as well as for Bulgari, occurring at a time of strong revenue growth. Romeo Gigli Menswear

Romeo Gigli - Menswear 2011

Romeo Gigli was born in  Faenza, Italy on 12 December 1949 to a wealthy  family.

Gigli produces clothes that are subtle and sophisticated. He blends colours with a fluid sense of cut and drape to give a feeling of balance and harmony to his designs, perhaps as a result of his architectural training and fondness for all things Renaissance.

Gigli’s father was in the antiquarian book business and Gigli himself acknowledged: “My ideas are all from pictures I have in my head from 15th and 16th century books.”

But inspired as he was by his father’s trade, Gigli did not go into the family business.

Instead, he studied architecture for two years, traveling regularly to London and Paris. In 1972, a store in Bologna, Italy, asked Gigli to design clothes based on the avant-garde street fashions he had seen in these two capital cities.

In 1978, Gigli traveled to New York to design a collection of menswear for Piertro Dimitri. Although Dimitri wanted him to stay and sign an exclusive design contract, Gigli remained in New York for only one season. He then returned to Italy and began work as a design consultant for several Italian clothing companies, including Timmi.

Gigli launched his own company in 1983 and set up his own label, manufactured by the Novara based company Zamasport.

In 1989 Gigli made a controversial move, taking his style presentations from Milan to Paris, where he continued to show under the tents outside the Louvre and under the auspices of the French fashion organization, Le Chambre du Syndicale, before moving into a showroom in the Marais district. In 1991, Gigli separated from his two business partners, restructured his business, and created “Romeo World”.

Franco Moschino Italian Designer

Franco Moschino Italian Designer

Franco Moschino (February 27, 1950 – September 18, 1994) was an Italian fashion designer who used wit, color and provocative designs to poke fun at the fashion establishment. He was completely un-orthodox.

Ironically, he became famous for the very thing he was poking fun at…

Franco Moschino became an illustrator for Gianni Versace until he broke away and launched his own label in 1983. His first company was called Moonshadow followed by the more famous Moschino Couture.

He started off with jeans and casual wear which was quickly followed by shoes, lingerie, accessories and much more…

He died unexpectedly of a heart attack in 1994 and his creative work has been continued since by his then assistant Rossella Jardini who has maintained the funky, fun fashion to this day.

Roberto Cavalli at Work

Roberto Cavalli at Work

Roberto Cavalli was born in Florence, Italy on November 15, 1940 and raised in modest surroundings. He had rather strong artistic traditions, his mother was a tailor and his grandfather a Florentine impressionist painter – whose work can be seen in the Uffizi Gallery.

Following in this tradition Roberto frequented the Academy of Art. Capricious, eclectic, and from the beginning original, he began his career at a young age whilst still a student, inventing along with a friend – just for fun on a ping-pong table – the first of his revolutionary creations: a process of printing on light-weight leather which he was able to do thanks to his meticulous research of fabrics and continual experimentation with new technologies.

In his printing-house – something half way between a craftsman’s workshop and an artist’s studio – he concentrated his studies on the links between art, fashion and painting, eventually patenting the revolutionary process of printing on leather that he had evolved. Over the next ten years he created, almost by chance, what was to become a “must” for the beat generation: for fun, sewing together odd pieces of leather he invented the first of his patchworks which were a huge success and can honestly be considered true classics.

With the Seventies came international recognition and the beginning of a brilliant career.

Over the years Roberto Cavalli has expanded and as well as his Womenswear collection, new lines have been launched:

Menswear Just Cavalli (a line for youngsters)

Underwear Class(a knitwear collection)

Freedom (the casual line)

Angels (a line for children from 4 to 14)

An inspiration to the international jet-set, Roberto Cavalli is taken for granted by stars all over the world. Eclectic, social and ironic by nature, as a designer he sets himself apart through his natural vivaciousness and extreme cordiality – as well as his proverbial hospitality which makes him the perfect host of parties and dinners.

Like all good Tuscans, he loves to surround himself with friends to celebrate not only his successes but even the smallest occasion: for Roberto Cavalli any reason is a good reason to celebrate with a friend. As well as his brilliant career as a designer he is equally well-known for his spectacular parties, which are always attended by Italian and international celebrities. Ornella Muti, Anna Oxa, Nancy Brilli, Jennifer Lopez, Mena Suvari, Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige, Cindy Crawford, Cher, Zucchero, Linus, Lenny Kravitz, Bono from U2, Anthony Hopkins, The Beckhams and Sting.

Alberta Ferretti Designer

Alberta Ferretti was born in 1950 in Cattolica on the north Adriatic coast of Italy, the daughter of a dressmaker. She is one of the doyennes of Italian fashion.

Aged just 18, Ferretti opened a boutique in her hometown, but in 1974 she exchanged selling for designing and launched her own label.

During the 1980s, Ferretti set up Aeffe with her brother and built up her brand of pretty, lyrical dressing. She made her debut on the Milan runway in 1981 and launched Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti in 1984.

In 1994, Aeffe was also producing collections for Moschino, Gaultier and Narciso Rodriguez but today is a major and acquisitive player in the luxury goods market. Ferretti’s firmly believes in women designing for women. Ultimately she knows her clients: feminine, romantic women with a taste for delicate, antique decoration and simple lines.

She is also known for her use of luxury fabrics in her creations.

Considered one of the most inventive designers in Milan, her decisive cuts, beautiful construction and soft silhouettes are proofs of her design genius.

Her creations usually have a dreamlike quality, wherein she usually add an unexpected twist, making them not just beautiful but also very interesting.
