British Beach Polo

Polo in Poole Dorset – 6th and 7th July 2012

‘The matches are fast and furious, and the extra-large orange ball, designed not to get lost in the sand, flies around at speeds of up to 100mph..’ The Guardian

This is Polo played in an enclosed arena has been referred to as ‘Ice Hockey on Horse Back’.

Spectators are close to the action – they can fully appreciate the horsemanship, speed and gladiatorial nature of Polo.

The polo ponies love the sand – they can accelerate and stop fast and can turn extremely sharply.

The thrill and excitement of horses galloping on the sand with the English Channel as a backdrop, whilst sipping champagne amongst glamorous company, is a vision to remember – an intoxicating mix.

Polo players engage with the sponsors and spectators both on and off the pitch.

Gaucho Polo International O2

Gaucho Polo International O2 Arena February 2011

Gaucho International Polo comes to London and the O2 arena – Again…

On March 21st 2012 Polo will take another historic step into the sporting mainstream with this unique indoor event at The O2.

February 2011 saw the inaugural ‘Gaucho International Polo’ tournament at The O2. The event attracted over 7000 spectators and was the highest attended indoor ‘International’ in the history of the sport.

Wednesday March 21st, 2012 will see the return of the event in a more intense format that will express the passion and culture of Polo, Gaucho and Argentina.

Building on last year’s successful event and the sport’s growing popularity, The O2 offers spectators the chance to get right into the thick of the action with their intimate arena setting. This interesting twist on indoor arena polo provides a dynamic form of the sport which is played on a reduced pitch, providing a quicker, slicker game to add to the already highly-charged gladiatorial contest. Traditional arena polo rules, which feature only three players, enhance the spectator experience and will magnify the intense atmosphere.

Lords Cricket Ground always a good day out

Lord’s is renowned as the ‘home of cricket’ and the game’s spiritual ‘headquarters’.

In addition to International Cricket matches, you can also take a tour of Lord’s where you can see  the Players’ Dressing Rooms,  the Long Room, in the heart of the Pavilion, which is both a cricket-watching room and a cricket art gallery – with portraits of the game’s best-known figures, including WG Grace.

Ashes urn remains at Lords

The Museum where the fascinating story of cricket is brought to life. Paintings, photographs and artefacts, covering 400 years of cricket history, reveal the game’s development from a rural pastime to a modern and increasingly international sport.

Other Lord’s attractions include the Tennis Court, where Real Tennis, ‘the game of kings’ (including King Henry VIII), is still played, and the MCC Indoor Cricket School – where many future Test and county stars hone their skills (helped by video technology, expert coaching and 100mph bowling machines).

Despite its historic fame, Lord’s is the setting for some of the most innovative architecture in London. In addition to the award-winning Mound Stand and the Grand Stand, Lord’s includes the futuristic NatWest Media Centre.

The Media Centre by Future Systems architects was commissioned in time for the 1999 Cricket World Cup and was the first all aluminium, semi-monocoque building in the world which was acclaimed in 2001 as one of ‘The Fifty Best Buildings in Britain’ – coming eleventh (two places ahead of St Paul’s Cathedral!)

Tours run from April to September and October to March
