Velux 5 formerly Around Alone Race
The VELUX 5 OCEANS Race was formerly known as the Around Alone race and before that The BOC Challenge.
Around Alone is a round-the-world single-handed yacht race, sailed in stages, now managed by Clipper Ventures Plc since 1995.
Its current name comes from its main sponsor, VELUX, a Danish window company.
The original BOC Challenge first took place in 1982. In the late 1990s the race was renamed the Around Alone.
Since the 2006-2007 edition the race has run under its current name 0f Velux 5 Oceans Race
This event is the longest race for individuals in any sport.
