arc longchamp horse racingThe Longchamp Racecourse or locally known as the Hippodrome de Longchamp is a 58 hectare horse-racing facility located on the Route des Tribunes in the Bois de Boulogne at Paris, France. Built on the banks of the River Seine, it is used for flat racing and is one of the most prestigious flat racing tracks in the world. Its name is synonymous with all that is noble in the sport of kings.

Longchamp has 17 hectares that are used for several racetracks varying from 1,000 to 4,000 meters in length with 46 different starting posts.

The highlight of racing at the facility is the annual Prix de l’Arc de Triompe. Held on the first weekend in October, the prestigious event attracts the best horses from around the world. It is one of the French racing season’s four Classic races. 

The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is a Group 1 flat thoroughbred horse race which are three-years-old or above. It is run over a distance of 2,400 metres (approximately 1½ miles) annually on the first Sunday in October.

Most commonly know as the “Arc”, it is the most prestigious horse race in Europe. Many winners of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe are subsequently regarded as champions. With a prize fund of 4 million euros, it is presently the world’s second richest horse race contested after the Japan Cup.
