Thierry Mugler was born in 1948 in Strasbourg. At age 14 he had joined the Ballet of the National Rhine Opera where he danced for 6 years.
By 1969 he left home to travel and by 1971 he had created his first personal collection called “Café de Paris”. In 1974 he created the label Thierry Mugler.
In 1978 he opened his first Paris boutique at the Place des Victoires and at the same time, Thierry Mugler launched a collection for men.

He is a stage designer, photographer, and costume designer in one. He has designed costumes for Cirque du Soleil and is currently working on fashions for Beyonce and Lady Gaga.
